Craig Stewart, owner of Marietta Motorsports, was enlisted aircrew as a Loadmaster aboard C-130 Hercules aircraft. His unit was the 700th Airlift Squadron based out of Dobbins Air Reserve Base. It was during this time he was given his callsign / nickname of "Baby Huey"!
He served for 14 years; flying over 2,300 hours with missions to every State and countless countries over four continents; was promoted to the rank of E-6 / Technical Sergeant; and awarded an Air Medal during Operation Provide Promise, Aerial Achievement Medal during Operation Provide Comfort, Inspector General Superior Performer and was the 94th Air Wing Airman of the Year in 1994 (given by then Secretary of Defense William Perry!).
A Loadmaster is an enlisted aircrew position and is responsible for the loading and unloading of the aircraft; weight and balance calculations; and airdrop of personnel and equipment on tactical missions. Huey's airdrops have included a multitude of training loads, paratroopers, SeALs with Combat Rubber Raiding Craft, humanitarian relief from 14,000 feet, and even a 2.5 ton truck that was extracted out of the 130 via two 28' parachutes.
